Today, March 13, 2024, Prodma AB is highlighted in a major reportage that takes up an entire spread in Dagens Industri. The headline is “Made in Sweden” saved the factory.

The article describes how Prodma’s flexible production system succeeded in filling the former Electrolux factory with entirely new production, leading to both new jobs and growth in Mariestad. Among other things, it states how the interest in Swedish-made products has increased thanks to production being located closer to the end customer, sustainable production, and better quality.

In the article, Niklas Lind, CEO of Prodma AB, is quoted:

“Sweden cannot compete solely on price, but with the help of automation and reduced transportation by having manufacturing closer to the end market, there are other advantages that attract production back from China and other countries.”

Jan Kristoffersson, who was Quality Manager at Electrolux in Mariestad and one of Prodma’s founders, is also quoted:

“I thought, it’s a damn shame if it’s not possible to have manufacturing in Sweden.”

The reportage also describes how Prodma was started by former Electrolux managers Jan Kristoffersson, Anders Larsson, and Jan Eklund when the factory risked standing empty after Electrolux moved the production of its refrigerators to Hungary.

After a successful transition to entirely new production, Prodma is now a growth company. An example of current production is Woods dehumidifiers, which moved their manufacturing to Mariestad from Canada. This is an example of relocation, also known as reshoring. Something that Prodma has the capacity and knowledge to help more companies with.
